This evening, I am presenting a piece of history in the form of the gravemarker recording the death of
Betty Burns, daughter of Scotland's national poet
Robert Burns. This memorial can be found in the Kirk Lane Cemetery near
Shawlands. Betty lived between 1790 and 1873. She married a soldier/handloom weaver in the Shaws. Her daughter, Margaret married a weaver who was also a poet.
The stone was erected by R.B.Thomson, son of John Thomson and Betty Burns.
