Miller Ancestry Tour Scotland

This evening I am posting some images of a just completed Miller family ancestry tour based on the Strathaven-Stewarton area of S.W.Scotland.

Hookhead Farm

War memorial at Avendale Parish Church. We attended 11.00am service here.

View of town centre at Strathaven, a very pleasant and prosperous little town.

View of Burnfoot farm, now in a ruinous state and occupied by a family of owls.

Landscape near Burnfoot.
Loudon Hill. This is of volcanic origin and is very prominent in the local landscape.

Loudon Hill Inn. We enjoyed a good lunch at this popular venue.

View of the now ruined Boghall Farm

Covenanters Stone at Drumclog Church

Aspects of Drumclog Church.

Memorial to the Covenanters victory at the Battle of Drumclog

This battle took place in 1679 when the Covenanters took up arms at Drumclog and won their only victory. Later, the Covenanters were defeated at Bothwell Bridge by the Duke of Monmouth's forces.

Stewarton Leigh Kirk. This is located in the centre of Stewarton, Ayrshire. This is an interesting old church which may contain the burials of family members.

Overall, an enjoyable and successful tour aided by sunny and dry weather conditions.
