Wingate Ancestry Glasgow Scotland
This evening, I am posting a short video clip of a Wingate memorial stone located at Eastwood Old Cemetery, Glasgow. Regrettably, the video quality is poor because (a) the memorial stone has been vandalised and lies recumbent in pieces and (b) poor light conditions were aggravated by tree cover.

This evening, I am posting a video clip following my visit to Paisley, near Glasgow.
This shows a grave-marker in the grounds of Paisley Abbey and records James Wallace, his wife Margaret Blair and their children. The inscription is dated 1770 but it is not clear precisely what this date alludes to.

William Gibb Ancestry Gorbals Glasgow Scotland
This morning I re-visted the Rose Garden in central Gorbals, Glasgow. In the 18th and early 19th centuries this area was 'upsacle' and home to wealthy business people and professionals.
The Rose Garden is now a public park the perimeter walls of which are embedded with various memorial stones which may suggest the park was previously a churchyard or cemetery.
The first video provides an 'overview' of the Rose Garden whilst the second video focuses on a memorial to William Gibb, a spirit dealer/merchant, who died Nov 1827 age 77 years.

Edmiston Family History Glasgow Scotland
Today, I am posting an image of a gravestone from Eastwood Old Cemetery, Glasgow.
This was erected by William Fleming Edmiston in memory of John Edmiston, his wife and children. WFE was nephew of JE.
The inscription specifically records the death of James Edmiston, son on John, at Lochinch on Jan 9 1841 age 78. Also, James's wife, Mary Pollock, also at Lochinch on Feb 5th 1841 age 79.

Today, I am presenting a short video of a memorial to the Rev Robert Wodrow which is located in Eastood Old Cemetery, Glasgow, Scotland.
This gentleman was Minister of Eastwood Kirk and "faithful historian of the sufferings of the Church of Scotland 1660-1688".
Rev Wodrow died March 21st 1734 age 55 yrs-and in the 31st year of his ministry.

This afternoon, I am posting a video image of a Thomson family memorial from Glasgow's Southern Necropolis (near to the Gorbals).
George Thomson was an engineer and shipbuilder of Glasgow who died June 29th 1866 age 51 yrs.
The inscription records that four of his children ( May, John, Edith and William Rodger) plus his grandchild, George, all died in infancy.

John Robertson Ancestry Glasgow Scotland
This morning I visited the Southern Necropolis near Gorbals Glasgow. This is a fascinating cemetery containing memorials to wide range of wealthy and important people, mainly from the early 19th century when Glasgow was expanding rapidly as an industrial centre.
The video clip below show a recent memorial to John Robertson, an engineer who was born Dec 10th 1782 and died Nov 19th 1868. This man was responsible for the engine of the 'Comet' 1812 which was the first steamboat that plied regularly in Europe.

Earl of Elgin & Kincardine Ancestry Glasgow
This morning I visited Eastwood Old Cemetery, Glasgow, Scotland and took a short video clip of this fascinating and historic burial ground. The video provides an overview of this well kept cemetery. At the end the camera focus on a box like building which appears to be the mausoleum for members of the Earl of Elgin & Kincardine's family.
A plaque records that Thomas, Earl of Elgin & Kincardine, had a daughter, Harriet Maxwell who died August 21st 1857. Harriet was the wife of Sir John Maxwell. The inscription is in poor condition.

This afternoon I visited a fascinating graveyard at Oakshaw Trinity Church, Paisley, near Glasgow. This holds a collection of very old grave markers dating back to the late 18th century.
This stone simply records the names John Dalglish and Janet Aitken (husband and wife) and is dated 1790.
