William Miller Ancestry Glasgow Scotland

This afternoon, I visited Glasgow's Necropolis (City of the Dead) where I encountered this interesting memorial stone which records the death of William Miller aka 'Laureate of the Nursery' whose life spanned the period August 1810-August 20th 1872. He is famous for authoring Wee Willie Winkie-

Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town,

Upstairs and downstairs, in his nightgown.

Rapping at the window, crying throught the lock,

“Are the children all in bed, for now it’s eight o’clock.”

Apparently, the Willie is reference to King William III (Nov 14 1650-March 8 1702) in Jacobite songs.
