Reid Ancestry Glasgow Scotland

This evening, I visited Eastwood Old Cemetery, Glasgow and photographed this Reid family memorial stone which records the fact that one of the deceased was killed by a motor car in 1914, a time when motor cars were probably little more than a novelty in Scotland.
The stone records the deaths of:

  • Isabella Milne, late of Auchinzeoch, Fordoun Dec 25th 1911 age 42 yrs.
  • Son, James Murray Reid who was killed by a motor car at Stepps on Feb 7th 1914 age 20.
  • Son, L/C David Alex Reid, 5th Canadians, killed at Vimy Ridge April 9th 1917 age 25 yrs.
  • William Reid died at Laurencekirk Aug 14th 1920 age 61.
  • Eldest son, Albert William Reid died April 21st 1951 age 61 yrs.
(This family evidently had strong Aberdeenshire connections.)
